Machines and software

I work on the machines that cut and finish stone, every make. Here's what I do on each type, and how I work with their controls.

By machine type

  • Bridge saws

Levelling the machine and the table, squaring the bridge, the blade at 90° on the C and A axes, backlash, origins and the camera. Cleaning and greasing of the guides, racks and screws. Full calibration.

  • Sawjets

A saw and a waterjet on one bridge. The saw side gets everything a bridge saw gets. On the jet side I check the TCP square.

  • Waterjets

Levelling, the A and C axes, origins and the slab probe. Cleaning and greasing.

  • CNC work centres

Table and axes, tool probe, tool change, spindle reference, laser projector and origins. Tool set-up in CAD/CAM, and operator training.

  • Slab polishers

Levelling, the polishing heads and tool change, plus cleaning and lubrication.

  • Edge polishers

Cleaning, lubrication and a full check, written up.

Controls and software

Controls and software I know wellI measure the machine and correct the settings in the control. On some of them I also train operators and set up tools.
Controls that are new to meI read up on the control first, then measure the machine and do the work.

Tell me which control your machine runs when you email.

The CAD/CAM packages I use come from independent software houses and run on machines from several makers. So what I know about them carries across makes.

European makes

Most of my experience is on European-built machines, but I work on every make. Some I know better than others. When yours is new to me, I learn it, and every visit after the first is quicker.

Chinese-built machines

Newer Chinese-built machines are mechanically much like the rest, and the levelling and squaring work the same way. Some come without a local service network behind them, and that's the kind of job I'm happy to take.

Tell me what you've got

Email me the make, model and serial number, and you'll get a straight answer on what I can do with it.
